Seek Reforms in Sponsorship System, Labor Rights Protections
DECEMBER 18, 2013
RELATED MATERIALS:
The Gulf countries should recognize the crucial role foreign workers play in their economies and take measures to ensure that their rights are fully respected. South Asian governments should join forces to press for reforms to end the terrible abuses against migrant workers that have gone on for far too long.

[Human Rights Watch]/UAE: Assaults on Dissident, Free Expression

UAE: ASSAULTS ON DISSIDENT, FREE EXPRESSION

Credible Allegations of Torture in Custody
JANUARY 23, 2014
RELATED MATERIALS:
The UAE’s repressive laws and dysfunctional justice system belie the government’s efforts to present the country as moderate and progressive. The UAE might seem like a safe place to shop, do business, or take a winter holiday but it’s becoming a very dangerous place to express a political opinion.
Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director

(Dubai) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2013 stifled free expression, and subjected dissidents to manifestly unfair trials marred by credible allegations of torture, Human Rights Watch said today in its World Report 2014.

A court sentenced 69 dissidents to prison terms of up to 10 years in July on charges of aiming to overthrow the government, though most of the evidence the court cited in the 243-page judgment suggested that they had only engaged in peaceful political activities. Many of those convicted, and another group of 30 dissidents facing similar charges, said they experienced mistreatment in pretrial detention that in some cases amounted to torture.

Ensure Aid and Media Access, Prosecute Abusive Security Forces
JANUARY 23, 2014
“The Burmese authorities need to promptly and transparently investigate this deadly violence, prosecute those responsible, and ensure aid gets to those in need. [2006]Reflections on some aspects of the political-military career of the Israeli prime minister Sharon

REFLECTIONS ON SOME ASPECTS OF THE POLITICAL-MILITARY CAREER OF THE ISRAELI

PRIME MINISTER SHARON

Introduction:
Dear Readers,
Undoubtedly you are being informed of  the recenty started discussion by the Western media and polticians, about the real or alleged contribution of the Israeli prime-minister Sharon to peace in the Middle-East-conflict.
Immediate cause is the execution of the Gaza-disengagement-plan last year, by which the Gaza-settlements were evacuated, like four settlements on the Westbank.
In the underlying article I’ll try to emphasize on the fact, that according to my opinion, either the Gaza-disengagement-plan, or any other political and military measure of Sharon has contributed in any respect on a serious and just peace in the Middle East.
Further I’ll pay special attention to another very relevant aspect of the political-military carreer of Sharon, which is threatened to be greatly ignored in the discussion about his real or alleged peace-contribution, namely the human rights violations and war-crimes, for which he was responsible during his political and military career
I think it is of utmost importance, that those human rights violations and war-crimes, which testify of the lack of respect for the most elementary human rights, are not forgotten

It’s a shame that Sharon has gone to his grave without facing justice for his role in Sabra and Shatilla and other abuses. . His passing is another grim reminder that years of virtual impunity for rights abuses have done nothing to bring Israeli-Palestinian peace any closer.

Dear Readers,
Not only the acquittal of the Dutch policeofficer, who shot Rishi
Chandrikasing to death, is an absolute scandal, it’s also a great risk.
For when a cop, who caused the death of a defenseless, unarmed civilian, is going
to work again, he is a great danger to society.
It can happen again.
Now there are people, who allege. that Rishi himself was no peach either [or to put it otherwise:
had a criminal record] [1], doesn’t matter at all.
Fact is, that any human being, whether ”respected citizen” or not, has a right to life and protection
of his/hers life, and that thew police has no right to end that life, when tere is no obvious case of self
defence.
And there wasn’t, since Rishi was running for the police [2]

A Happy, Healthy 2014 with a continuation of the struggle against injustice and human rights violations.
Hereby my translated letter to the members of the district council of Amsterdam Zuid-Oost [South-East], which
I wrote in december 2013 about their refusal to provide elementary
facilities to thegroup of rejected refugees, who is staying for now in the Vluchtgarage, Kralenbeek 100,
Amsterdam Zuid-Oost.
With great respect for those, who squatted  the ”Vlucht” locations for the refugees, everytime when they were evicted again.
And with  thanks to the Christen-Unie, which did the proposal in the District Council to provide
the refugees from basic needs.
