THE ASSANGE ARREST IS A WARNING FROM HISTORY

The glimpse of Julian Assange being dragged from the Ecuadorean embassy in London is an emblem of the times. Might against right. Muscle against the law. Indecency against courage. Six policemen manhandled a sick journalist, his eyes wincing against his first natural light in  almost seven years.

Subject:
The alliance between your city Andernach and the Israeli city
Dimona
Dear Mr Hutten,
I’ve recently learnt, that your city, Andernach  and the Israeli city Dimona
are twin cities since 1975. [1]
Not only Dimona, with its nuclear Research Centre, is a threat to peace and
humanity [2], there is a horrendous racism, reason enough
for you to break all ties immediately.
To that racism I refer later.
First this:
ISRAELI OCCUPATION, OPPRESSION AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS
Dimona, as a city  is not only part of the Israeli occupation State,
but by its nuclear involvement also an destructive military guardian
of the occupation.
Occupation State Israel is systematically violating the rights of the
occupied Palestinians.
The list is long, but here some horrible examples:

[Article Peter Storm]/Dear Cheerleaders, we need to have a chat about imperialism

Saturday, 4 April, 2015

Written for Libcom, and just published on my blog there.

In Rojava, in the North of Syria, Kurdish fighters are struggling against IS, Islamic State. That struggle deserves out interest, because it is not just a fight between armed groups fighting for territory but at the same time a struggle for a different social and political order, called Democratic Confederalism. Direct democracy, a central rol of women in the fight and in the running of society, space for people of different ethnic backgound to express themselves and co-determine their own fate, libertarian socialist inspiration and a clear break with the Marxist-Leninist and nationalist orthodoxies of the Kurdish movements involved , the PYD in Syria, the PKK in Turkey with which the PYD is connected… all this gives many people reason to cheer the events as an important revolution – the Rojava Revolution. Others, however, are less convinced, some – myself not excluded – have serious reservations. Exchanges of opinions, sometimes furious ones, have been going on for months now. What follows is a contribution to this polemic.

The National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), located in Amsterdam, received lots of red paint on their doorstep and facade, as well as broken windows.
A good action, as far as I am concerned.

For of course it didn’t happen ”out of the blue”

COMMENTS ON GUEST POST BY JEFFREY STAYTON,
AUTHOR OF ” THIS SIDE OF THE RIVER”
Dear Readers,
Knowing Susan Higginbotham as the author about
Medieval history and often blogging about that period and
shortly thereafter, I was pleasantly surprised to learn about a
Guest post, referring to the American Civil war.
Guest poster is the writer Jeffrey Stayton, who wrote a novel
about the Civil War, focusing on a sort of soldiers shell shock,
PTSD.
His book is titled
”This side of the River”
See the Blog
Perhaps she welcomed his Guest Post because of her yet to be published
novel on the aftermath of the American Civil War ”Hanging Mary”, which
actually refers to the president Lincoln murderer William Booth
However interesting, I had some comments on Stayton’s post and approach.
For I acknowledge the suffering of soldiers because of the horrors
of war, but comparing to that, the suffering of the thousands and
sometimes 100 000 civilians is seldom counted, at least not as individuals.
Therefore I wrote the following comment under Jeffrey Stayton’s post,
for remembering everyone, that the common civilians mostly pay
the highest price in wars.
A TRAVEL TO THE PAST AND PRESENT

Nelson Mandela ”I am prepared to die”/Mandela’s statement in the 1964 trial

NELSON MANDELA ”I AM PREPARED TO DIE”/MANDELA’S STATEMENT IN THE 1964 TRIAL

I am the First Accused.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and practised as an attorney in Johannesburg for a number of years in partnership with Oliver Tambo. I am a convicted prisoner serving five years for leaving the country without a permit and for inciting people to go on strike at the end of May 1961.

At the outset, I want to say that the suggestion made by the State in its opening that the struggle in South Africa is under the influence of foreigners or communists is wholly incorrect. I have done whatever I did, both as an individual and as a leader of my people, because of my experience in South Africa and my own proudly felt African background, and not because of what any outsider might have said.

UKRAINE: WHAT’S GOING ON AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN

Tuesday, 3 December, 2013

My Libcom piece on Ukraine, posted there this evening

Some thoughts on the protests happening in Ukraine. Things are not completely what they may seem.

The mass protests unfolding in Ukraine are raising a few eyebrows here and there, as well as the usual hyped-up talk of people’s revolt and even revolution. The eyebrows are justified. Mass demonstrations of many hundreds of thousands in the winter cold, people blockading government buildings, attacking a presidential palace and occupying the city government office, calls for president and government to resign, talk of a general strike…all in support of closer ties to the EU? It all seems a bit odd. Add to the strange brew a strong element of extreme nationalism, and the picture of a movement that is right wing, reactionary and unsupportable from a radical, libertarian communist point of view becomes even clearer. What has been going on? I think there are at least three elements to all this.

Statement Bradley Manning/”Somtimes you have to pay a heavy price to live in a free society”

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO PAY A HEAVY PRICE TO LIVE IN A FREE SOCIETY

The following is a transcript of the statement made by Pfc. Bradley Manning as read by David Coombs at a press conference on Wednesday after Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

WATCH VIDEO OF COOMBS STATEMENT HERE

The decisions that I made in 2010 were made out of a concern for my country and the world that we live in. Since the tragic events of 9/11, our country has been at war. We’ve been at war with an enemy that chooses not to meet us on any traditional battlefield, and due to this fact we’ve had to alter our methods of combating the risks posed to us and our way of life.
