Frontex Involvement in Ill-Treatment of Migrant Detainees in Greece
SEPTEMBER 21, 2011
This report assesses Frontex’s role in and responsibility for exposing migrants to inhuman and degrading detention conditions during four months beginning late in 2010 when its first rapid border intervention team (RABIT) was apprehending migrants and taking them to police stations and migrant detention centers in Greece’s Evros region. The RABIT deployment has been replaced by a permanent Frontex presence. The report is based on interviews with 65 migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in Greece in November and December 2010 and February 2011, as well as with Frontex and Greek police officials.

Frontex Sends Migrants to Inhuman and Degrading Treatment in Greek Detention Centers
SEPTEMBER 21, 2011

  • Since November 2010, Frontex, the EU’s border agency, has deployed “guest officers” seconded from other EU member states, to assist Greece in patrolling its land borders. Migrants detained by patrols are transferred to detention centers in Greece where the conditions of detention are so poor that they are deemed inhuman and degrading.

Frontex has become a partner in exposing migrants to treatment that it knows is absolutely prohibited under human rights law. To end this complicity in inhuman treatment, the EU needs to tighten the rules for Frontex operations and make sure that Frontex is held to account if it breaks the rules in Greece or anywhere else.

FRONTEX

 

Frontex is the European border agency, founded in 2004 and operational since 2005. The agency has their seat in Warsaw, Poland, from where it directs its activities. Although it is often believed, Frontex is not an actual border police, with a staff in uniform and with the task to actually police the borders of the EU. Rather, Frontex is a coordinating mechanism of the European Union organizing the cooperation of the border police bodies of the member states of the EU. In this respect, Frontex is like a meta border police: it is both above and behind the everyday practices of border guards.

WAT IS FRONTEX?

 

Frontex in de Egeïsche Zee

Frontex is het Europees agentschap voor het beheer van de buitengrenzen, opgericht in 2004 en operationeel sinds 2005. De activiteiten van het agentschap worden geleid vanuit Warschau.

In tegenstelling tot wat men vaak denkt is Frontex geen grenspolitie in uniform en staan ze niet op de wacht aan de buitengrenzen van de Europese Unie. Frontex coördineert de samenwerking tussen de grenspolities van de Europese lidstaten. We kunnen dus spreken van een meta-grenspolitie : het agentschap staat boven en achter de dagelijkse praktijk van de grensbewaking.

Geachte lezers,
Terecht is er geprotesteerd tegen de lezing van IMF topvrouw
Lagarde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, waarbij ze vragen van
studenten over het wereldwijde IMF beleid beantwoordde.
Het IMF is een financiele organisatie met grote macht, die door
haar financieel leensysteem machteloze Derde Wereldlanden
de facto controleert door aan de afhankelijke regeringen keiharde
bezuinigingen op te leggen, die de arme bevolking

Veroordeling Joke Kaviaar voor opruiing/Woorden strafbaar/Misdaden Vluchtelingenbeulen beloond

 
””Ik was er bij toen het vonnis werd voor gelezen. Belangrijkste voor mij is dat mevrouw Kaviaar zich na dat vonnis was voorgelezen zich uiterlijk ongebroken toonde en strijdlustig. Wie doet dat haar na ? Mevrouw Kaviaar prominent Nederlands mensenrechten activiste is een voorbeeld voor allen vind ik. Laat niet door gebrek aan belangstelling gevestigde media de indruk ontstaan dat mevrouw Kaviaar alleen staat. Ik zei zo dat iedereen het kon horen in de rechtzaal WAAR IS MIJN FAKKEL en herhaal dat nog maar eens hier. De fakkel was erg aanwezig in het vonnis dat werd voorgelezen. Kent u de uitdrukking FIETS TERUG ? Een uitdrukking die oudere Nederlanders die w.o. 2 nog hebben meegemaakt zullen herkennen. Ik zie WAAR IS MIJN FAKKEL als soortgelijk. U zal mij regelmatig WAAR IS MIJN FAKKEL horen roepen als de macht aanwezig is.

Het proces tegen mevrouw Kaviaar een politiek proces ongetwijfeld met grote gevolgen voor de vrijheid van meningsuiting en activisme in kader No Border en in ander kader. De mobiliserende werking van beslissing van Justitie ? We zullen het zien.”

EACH WORD A SPARK

The Public Prosecution thinks it has the right to prosecute me on charges of what it calls ‘incitement’. In fact they are persecuting me because of my opinion, because of my written attacks on the destruction machine that is called immigration policy.

NHD29.12.12In an article published in the newspaper, Noord Hollands Dagblad, dated December 29, 2012 a spokesman of the National Prosecutors Office said about their case against me: “We find it most of all important that she stands trial and has to answer herself for her words.” So, for words… Words that I will not take back. The same spokesman also said: “The defendant seems to have done nothing to make sure that her website would disappear.”

Vooraf
Aandacht in dit stuk voor het Slotwoord, dat Joke Kaviaar op dinsdag 8 januari in de rechtszaal heeft uitgesproken, van  ”Elk woord een vonk”, dat is gebaseerd op haar hieronder genoemd Statement,
maar nog veel krachtiger en uitgebreider is
Zij las het op indringende en strijdbare wijze voor in de rechtszaal en maakte ieder woord overtuigend en indrukwekkend
