”RARA, WHO’S LEGAL ORDER IS IT?”/”WHERE IS THE DUTCH REBELLION?”/

THE FORBIDDEN TEXTS OF JOKE KAVIAAR
I AM COMMITTING A CRIMINAL OFFENCE
Because I am spreading the forbidden texts of Joke Kaviaar.
WITH PRIDE!

Why?
Because Joke Kaviaar fights the inhuman Dutch asylum
policy, which is chasing refugees, treating them inhumanely,
pressing them to suicide and driving them into death by
deportation to warstricken countries, and exposing them
to persecution.
With criminal cooperation of air companies like KLM
[Dutch Royal Airlines]

Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
The election victory of the NDP [National Democratic Party]
of ex dictator and president D Bouterse shows clearly
the short memory and opportunism of people.
Besides intimidation by Bouterse c.s., poverty also
plays an important role.
And poverty is used smartly by Bouterse to realize a social
economical program, which probably will not last,
because of the diminished gold and oil prices [the main
export products of Surinam]
To refresh the memory:

[EdwardthesecondBlogspot]/Roger Mortimer’s grandchildren

I did a genealogical post recently about Henry of Lancaster’s grandchildren which seemed to go down rather well, and here’s one about some of the grandchildren of Roger Mortimer, lord of Wigmore and first earl of March (25 April 1287 – 29 November 1330) and Joan Geneville (2 February 1286 – 19 October 1356).  The couple married in 1301 and had four sons and eight daughters (see Ian Mortimer’s The Greatest Traitorfor more info): Edmund (the eldest son and Roger’s heir), Roger, Geoffrey, John, Margaret (the eldest daughter), Isabella, Joan, Maud, Agnes, Katherine, Beatrice and Blanche.  Talking of the latter, here andhere are pics of Blanche’s stunning effigy in Much Marcle, Herefordshire.  Please take a moment to have a look.  Isn’t she beautiful?  Look at the way her gown is made to spill over the edge of the tomb, her hands clutching a rosary, her tight-fitting gown and head-dress in the style of the mid-fourteenth century.  Stunning.  And here is the effigy of Blanche’s sister Katherine and her husband the earl of Warwick, in Warwick.

Sweden police documents, including the Palestinian flag
among known terror symbols
””Recognizing the imperative need to put an early end to colonial and foreign domination and alien subjugation,1. Reaffirms the inalienable right of all peoples under colonial rule, foreign domination and alien subjugation to self-determination, freedom and independence in conformity with General Assembly resolution 1514 (XV) and other relevant resolutions of the United Nations;”

UN GA RESOLUTION 3246, 1974
Your Excellency
Hereby I draw your attention for the following:
I have learnt with astonishment and indignation from the Swedish
police documents, including the Palestinian flag among known
terror symbols.
I consider this as a flagrant violation of the Palestinian right of
selfdetermination and the right of resistance against the Israeli
occupation and I request to you to use your influence to remove
the Palestinian flag and any Palestinian organization from the
Swedish police documents list. [1]

(Article in The Guardian)/Refugees don´t need our tears. They need us to stop making them refugees

In the desert, the smugglers lace their water with petrol so the smuggled won’t gulp it down and cost more. Sometimes the trucks they’re packed into stall crossing the Sahara; they have to jump out to push, and some are left behind when the trucks drive off again. In transit camps in Libya before the perilous venture across the Blue Desert, they play football, fight, and pool their scanty resources so an even poorer friend can pay his way. One man says his tiny wooden boat was flanked by dolphins as they made the journey, three on each side, like guardian angels, and this was what gave him hope.

Lincoln Remembered in Washington D.C./Comments on Susan Higginbotham’s ”History Refreshed”

SLAVE TRADE
SLAVERY IN THE USA
HOUSES OF THE PLANTATION OWNERS

Dear Readers,

Knowing Susan Higginbotham from her impressive novels about
English Medieval History, Queen of Last Hopes [about the
life of Queen Margaretof Anjou, one of the major players in the Wars of
the Roses] and The Traitor’s wife [about Eleanor de Clare, wife to
Hugh Despenser the Younger, favourite of King Edward II], I was somewhat
surprised about her book about the American Civil War, Hanging Mary,
which describes the life of Mary Surrat, a Confederate sympathiser,
who had a boarding house.
John  Wilkes Booth, assassinator of president Lincoln, was
a regular visitor.
In Mary Surat’s boarding house Booth and fellow conspirators
Susan Higginbotham attended a vigil in remembrance of the
She wrote about that in her interesting Blog ”History Refreshed”
Her post was:
”LINCOLN REMEMBERED IN WASHINGTON, D.C.”
I wrote some comments about this post.

[EdwardthesecondBlogspot]/The death of Piers Gaveston

Today is the 696th anniversary of the death of Piers Gaveston, run through with a sword and beheaded at Blacklow Hill, Warwickshire, on 19 June 1312.The story of Piers’ death – abducted from the earl of Pembroke’s custody by the earl of Warwick and killed in the presence of the earls of Lancaster, Hereford and Arundel – has been told so often I’m not going to bother repeating it here. Instead, I’ll look at some lesser-known aspects of the whole sordid business.

[EdwardthesecondBlogspot]/Edward II’s other great favourite, Hugh Despenser the Younger

This post is about a man I’ve always found absolutely fascinating: the man who was the de facto ruler of England for much of the 1320s, until his hideous execution at Hereford on 24 November 1326. In a recent poll, he was voted most villainous Briton of the 14th century, and got 9% of the vote for the worst Briton ever! Let’s face it, a man who extorted money and lands from rich widows (including his own sister-in-law), who became a pirate when he was exiled from England, and who was almost certainly the lover of his wife’s uncle, is waaay more interesting to write about than a man who helped little old ladies to cross the road (though maybe he did that too, who knows?)

[EdwardthesecondBlogspot]/The charges against Hugh Despenser the Younger, november 1326

This is my translation of the charges against Hugh Despenser the Younger at his trial in Hereford on 24 November 1326, which are printed in the original Anglo-Norman in G. A. Holmes’ ‘Judgement on the Younger Despenser, 1326’ (English Historical Review, 70, 1955). Investigating the accuracy of the charges would be a major undertaking, and although some of them are certainly true, some are utterly ludicrous. May McKisack (The Fourteenth Century 1307-1399) calls the charges “an ingenious tissue of fact and fiction,” while Roy Martin Haines (in his biography King Edward II) points out that “it is an ingenious document, another piece of propaganda that puts the blame for all the ills of the reign on one man and his father,” ignoring – for the time being, at least – Edward II’s own manifold failings and that the earl of Lancaster and his followers were in armed rebellion against their king in 1322, and in treasonous correspondence with Robert Bruce to boot. The original text begins Hughe le despenser en parlement nostre seignur le Roi Edward qui ore est tenu a Westmonstre Lan de son regne xvme
