OF COURSE I understand Penelope Feathering’s pain, being treated badly by her mother and sisters and being laughed at on balls and for that I do sympathise with her, but what is a Red Line for me is NOT that she started a rather spicy gossip sheet [I can understand her need for revenge on people who treated her badly] but that she went too far and became utterly malicious, trying to ruin her best friend Eloise and her cousin Marina, who was friendly to her [the fact that Colin loved Marina and not Pen is no excuse for ruin her, at most to play a trick on her……] [IA]

Although I am writing about a complete different subject in the Bridgerton Series at the moment, namely about the Anthony Bridgeron and Siena Rosso Love Relationship [2] I simply couldn’t resist the temptation to give you my first commentary on Penelope Featherington, alias Lady Whistledown [3]
I will write a lot more about this lady in the future !
MY FIRST, SHORT COMMENT ABOUT THIS LADY
And as I wrote above in my article:

MORE ABOUT LA PENELOPE/HAHA
Lady Whistledown turned out to be Pen Featherington, who, for reasons incomprehensible to fans, managed to become the wife of Colin Bridgerton, Anthony Bridgerton’s brother. Because not only did she make a “brave” but failed attempt to socially ruin both her so-called “best friend” Eloise [sister to Colin and Anthony] [4] and her cousin Marina Thompson [whom Colin passionately loved][5] , but Colin himself had always declared that Penelope [Pen, as he always called her] was merely a friend, without any romantic feelings.
The fact that Colin marries her in Season 3 anyway—even though at the start of Season 3 he claimed under oath that he would ruin the woman who had tried to ruin his sister and his former lover Marina, and was downright furious upon the revelation that Pen was Lady Whistledown—is illogical and, from a psychological standpoint, absolute nonsense, making it one of the biggest blunders by the show’s creators.
This can only be explained by Penelope’s intense manipulative tricks, with which she likely [and you see this in Season 3 as well] played the victim in Colin’s presence to arouse his pity and sympathy.
As proof of this, I cite a scene in which Pen asks Colin to kiss her so that she does not go to her grave without ever having been touched by a man…
She did this throughout Season 3, and it only worked because Colin was, at his core, a chivalrous man.
I am on my hobbyhorse now, so I will keep going for a bit:

Still, I can understand that Pen tried to make her move with Colin [after all, she had been in love with him for half her life, and the chances of her getting married were not exactly massive].
But the fact that Lady Violet accepted her and supported that marriage feels almost like a betrayal. After all, she KNEW that Pen had tried to socially ruin her daughter Eloise [as it had been published out in the open in Lady Whistledown, and she read that paper eagerly]. That is the worst betrayal against your own child.
But that does not really surprise me coming from a mother who not only dehumanized her own son’s lover [Siena Rosso, by contemptuously calling her “a certain soprano,” knowing full well that she was deeply hurting Anthony by doing so][6] , but also nastily sabotaged his love affair with Siena Rosso by emotionally blackmailing him with his deceased father. [7] Something through which she caused a permanent estrangement between herself and her eldest son.[8]
Objecting to a romantic relationship out of fear of social death is one thing. Dehumanizing someone, emotionally blackmailing your son, and breaking his heart in the process is unforgivable.[9]
AND THEN:
Applauding a marriage between Penelope and Colin [naturally because of her “status” as Lady Whistledown], while that very same Penelope tried to socially ruin your daughter, yet dehumanizing the woman who only loved your son but came from the “wrong” class and circles [10], is incomprehensible to me.
