Trade fairs are about doing business, but Merkel should make clear to Putin that it cannot be business as usual for Germany’s relations with Russia until the attacks on civil society stop. This is the worst crackdown in Russia in 20 years. It is admirable to promote deeper understanding between Russia and the Netherlands, but this has very little meaning if vital parts of Russian society cannot express themselves freely.

Burmese government restrictions on aid to Rohingya Muslims are creating a humanitarian crisis that will become a disaster when the rainy season arrives. Instead of addressing the problem, Burma’s leaders seem intent on keeping the Rohingya segregated in camps rather than planning for them to return to their homes.

The Public Prosecution thinks it has the right to prosecute me on charges of what it calls ‘incitement’. In fact they are persecuting me because of my opinion, because of my written attacks on the destruction machine that is called immigration policy.
In an article published in the newspaper, Noord Hollands Dagblad, dated December 29, 2012 a spokesman of the National Prosecutors Office said about their case against me: “We find it most of all important that she stands trial and has to answer herself for her words.” So, for words… Words that I will not take back. The same spokesman also said: “The defendant seems to have done nothing to make sure that her website would disappear.”
