The Half-Apology: Why True Forgiveness is Impossible

Anthony’s reaction to Violet’s peace offering in Season 2 is calculated and distant because he knows she is still avoiding the core of the issue:

I really understand Violet’s  objections against the Love Relationship  of her son Anthony and opera singer Siena Rosso due to her understandable and real fear of the social death [11], BUT THAT’S NO EXCUSE FOR THE MEAN, NASTY AND DEHUMANIZING WAY SHE HANDLED IT!

For apparently it didn’t sink in to her  that, by expressing herself this way about the woman he loved, she was not only deeply dehumanizing Siena Rosso, but also striking at the very core of her son’s well being.

But eventually, she paid the price for it……

For even after his marriage and happiness with Kate Sharma [12], Anthony not only continued to keep a safe distance [he moved to the countryside] [13],  he continued to harbor resentment for the dehumanizing way his mother, Lady Violent, had handled his romantic relationship with Siena Rosso.” [14]

AND he would never forget, that when he was heartbroken from the Break up with Siena, only his best friend and now brother in law Simon Basset  [15] comforted him in an affectionately way [16]

Only the Facade of Duty and Cool Politeness remained……
